Valborg "Valie" McKinney, 90, longtime Colo resident, died late Friday night, February 3rd, at the Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Zearing where she has resided since last year. Her death came peacefully at 11:45 p.m., the night prior to her 61st anniversary. For condolences, please visit www.mitchellfh.com. The Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown is caring for Valborg and her family. Born Valborg Rattenborg on September 26th, 1915, at Elk Horn, Iowa, she was the daughter of Christian and Gudren Rattenborg. She received her education in the country schools around Elk Horn and later moved to Atlantic, Iowa where she did housecleaning. On February 4th, 1945, she was united in marriage to Vernon McKinney in Atlantic, Iowa. They farmed near Colo where she was a member of the Colo United Methodist Church, the ladies aid of the church and the Dalton Aid. She will be fondly remembered for her love of family, embroidery, flowers and plants, farming with her husband and dancing in her younger years. Left to celebrate her life are her four children; David (Aileen) McKinney of State Center, Dennis (Virginia) McKinney of Ames, Julie (Dwight) Wengert of State Center and Karen (Bill) Jubeck of Peosta, Iowa, 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. In death she has rejoined her husband, her parents and her siblings; Harry, Milo, Clarence, Anna, William and Hans.
