Interment will be in the Pilger Cemetery. Visitation will be on Sunday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and will continue on Monday from noon until the time of the service at the church. Valdene Faye (Vahle) Petersen was born on June 14, 1940 in rural Cuming Co., NE to Walter and Valeria (Breitkreutz) Vahle. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. Val attended rural school, graduated from Pilger High School in 1958, and attended Business School in Omaha, NE. She worked in Omaha at Paxton-Verling prior to her marriage. On February 12, 1961, she was united in marriage to Lanny A. Petersen in Iowa. On Val’s 27th birthday, they brought home their daughter, LaWanda, whom they adopted through the Nebraska Children’s Home in Omaha. Val worked at Sherwood Medical in Norfolk from 1961-1999. She was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, its Ladies Aid, active in the Pilger C.I.C., and since the tornado in Pilger in 2014, she has served on the Village of Pilger Communication Committee. Val and Lanny also started and operated for sixteen months “The Rock Coffee Shop” at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church. She was also a former member of the Wayne Red Hat Society. Val enjoyed sewing, quilting, and playing dominos at the Wisner Care Center. She loved attending her grandchildren’s activities. Survivors include- Husband-Lanny A. Petersen of Pilger, NE Daughter- LaWanda and Shane Novotny of Stanton, NE Grandchildren- Daniel Petersen of Stanton, NE Amber and Adam Becker of Columbus, NE Audrey Novotny of Fremont, NE Benjamin Novotny of Ft. Lee, VA Brother-Ron and Rita Vahle of Pilger, NE Val was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother-Roger Vahle." Published at Minnick Funeral Home, Wisner, Nebraska.
