Description	:	Valentine P. Veit, 88, died on Friday, Oct. 21, 2011, at The Oaks in Orangeburg following a brief illness. Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 23, at Double Branch Baptist Church, Pinehill, with the Rev. Jeffrey H. Raymond officiating. Visitation will be at 2 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Valentine Patch was born Feb. 14, 1923, in Columbus, Ohio, to U.S. Army Capt. Irwin George Patch and Mary Jane Low Patch. Irwin George Patch and Mary Jane Low Patch. She graduated from Wellston High School with the class of 1941. Mrs. Veit was a retired civil service employee. She served as an executive secretary with the United States Air Force at the Warner Robins Air Material Area, Ga.; Clark Air Base, Philippines; Ent Air Base, Colo.; Ellsworth Air Base, S.D.; Patrick Air Base, Fla.; and Fort Jackson. She was married to Carl F. Hooks of Lake Worth, Fla.; to Col. Joseph R. Delaune, an Air Force pilot; to Col. Colie Houck, an Air Force civil engineer; and to Col. John P. A. Veit, an Air Force flight surgeon. Val (Mrs. Houck at the time) came to Orangeburg County in 1966 with Colie Houck, following his retirement from the U.S. Air Force. Mrs. Veit is survived by her brother, Capt. Irwin George Patch; sons, Carl and Scott Delaune; stepdaughter, Mary Houck Raymond; and stepsons Thomas and Colie Van Houck.
