Description	:	Excerpts from the obituary published in the Coon Rapids Enterprise, December 11, 1914: Valentine Arndt was born in Germany. He fought in the Franco-Prussian war of 1870, in the ranks of the victorious German army, partook of all the chief battles of that war and in the end of it was discharged from the military service with honor. Soon after his return to his home town he married Christiana Tauber (sic). This union was blessed with nine children of whom there are seven or eight living. Deceased with his wife and three children... Read More	Excerpts from the obituary published in the Coon Rapids Enterprise, December 11, 1914: Valentine Arndt was born in Germany. He fought in the Franco-Prussian war of 1870, in the ranks of the victorious German army, partook of all the chief battles of that war and in the end of it was discharged from the military service with honor. Soon after his return to his home town he married Christiana Tauber (sic). This union was blessed with nine children of whom there are seven or eight living. Deceased with his wife and three children immigrated to this country (in) 1882 and spent the first year of his being here at Cleveland, Ohio, where he worked at his carpenter trade. In 1883 he followed an invitation from B (Barney) Walther and moved to this place. Having come to here practically without any means, there were hard times for him to encounter, but with the help of God and with the assistance of good neighbors, through his own and his children's industry, and the economy of his good wife, succeeded and became wealthy. He was one of the founders of the congregation (Trinity Lutheran, Willow Township) at this place and he helped greatly to build this church. His first wife died the 29th day of March 1909. The 18th day of February (1910) he was married again to Maria Lilie. ( Note: Maria's son, The Reverend Carl F. Lilie, served as pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church, Willow Township, Greene County, Iowa from 1906-1910.) The departed leaves to mourn his departure: His widow, his children, Chris, Elise Deppman of here; John of Hinrichs, Minnesota, Fredric of Owantona, Minnesota, Mrs Albina(sic) Lucht of here, Mrs Emma Frieke of Mount Olive, Illinois,Mrs. Maria Pearson of here, Henry of here and Carl Lilie of Persia of Persia, Iowa. Four sons and three daughters in law, two brothers in Germany and twenty-eight-grandchildren. Also of note: Val Arndt and Bernhard Walther together built Trinity Lutheran Church in Willow Township, Greene County, Iowa in 1899.
