Description	:	Val was born in Freeburg, Minnesota, the second child of Nicholas and Elizabeth Link. He was aprox. five yeatrs old when the family came to South Dakota. Prior to the First Wolrd War, he worked for the South Dakota Central Railroad. He enlisted in the US Army when the war began, but he was dischared after several weeks due to a prior injury. Read More	Val was born in Freeburg, Minnesota, the second child of Nicholas and Elizabeth Link. He was aprox. five yeatrs old when the family came to South Dakota. Prior to the First Wolrd War, he worked for the South Dakota Central Railroad. He enlisted in the US Army when the war began, but he was dischared after several weeks due to a prior injury. He married Mary Sprowl on February 22, 1922, in Melette, South Dakota. In 1930 he and his family moved to Huron, South Dakota. He was a Pioneer with Northwestern Bell Telephone Co. According to his dauthter, Dorothy, he was a "very quite and kind man." During the depression, he had a steady job, and although he was raising his own family, he also helped out his mother and younger brothers, and his wife's family as well, by sending boxes of food and supplying them with coal in the winter. He died from cancer at the age of sixty-one.
