Description	:	Valeria A. “Larrie” Kannas, 79, of Watertown, SD, went to be with her Savior on Christmas Eve, December 24, 2012. She passed away peacefully at home after an almost six year battle with ovarian cancer with her husband of 58 years and her family by her side. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 29, 2012, at 1:30 p.m. at St. Martin’s Lutheran Church of Watertown with Rev. Paul Janke officiating. Visitation will be held Friday, December 28, 2012, from 4-7 p.m. at Crawford Funeral Chapel, Watertown, and prior to services at the church. Family... Read More	Valeria A. “Larrie” Kannas, 79, of Watertown, SD, went to be with her Savior on Christmas Eve, December 24, 2012. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 29, 2012, at 1:30 p.m. at St. Martin’s Lutheran Church of Watertown with Rev. Paul Janke officiating. Visitation will be held Friday, December 28, 2012, from 4-7 p.m. at Crawford Funeral Chapel, Watertown, and prior to services at the church. Family will meet at 1:00 p.m. at the church on Saturday. Pallbearers will be Valeria’s nephews: Tom Kannas, Kevin Kannas, Chad Rausch, Terry Strohfus, John Strohfus and great-nephew, Darwin Stark. Honorary pallbearers will be Valeria’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren along with Janice Schwanke, Frankie Walker, Ardell Jorgenson, Betty Hanten, Karen Gross, Darlene Gudmunson, Debra Roseth, the St. John’s Ladies Aid women and all of her special friends. Valeria was born on September 23, 1933, to John and Agnes (David) Strohfus of Hazel, SD. She graduated Valedictorian of her class from Thomas High School in 1951. She married Norman Kannas on February 21, 1954, in Watertown and together they raised four children. Hand in hand they farmed and operated a dairy and beef cow operation north of Watertown until retiring in 1991. Valeria was a faithful Christian and member of St. Martin’s Lutheran Church. She was active in the St. John’s Ladies Aid for numerous years and currently belonged to the St. Martin’s Mission Group. Valeria valued family time. Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren provided many cherished and memorable moments over her lifetime. She loved getting together with family and friends to visit and play pinochle. Valeria also had a love of flowers, gardening, canning and the Minnesota Twins. She will be remembered for her quick wit, great sense of humor and her caring and compassionate ways towards others. She will be greatly missed by her husband, Norman, of Watertown, and her four children: Rachelle (Dean) Raabe of Watertown, Sandra (Dennis) Thiesse of Shorewood, MN, Brenda Turner of Lakeville, MN, and Stanley (Susan) Kannas of Watertown. Her nine grandchildren include: Michael Raabe of Odessa, FL, Laura (Raabe) Babbs of Edwards, IL, Kelly Thiesse of St. Louis Park, MN, Amanda (Thiesse) Katterheinrich of St. Louis Park, MN, Rachel (Thiesse) Krauska of Rolling Meadows, IL, Josh Turner of Greenville, WI, Jessica Turner of Shakopee, MN, Amanda Feuerstein of Sioux Falls, Justin Feuerstein of Sioux Falls, as well as two great-grandchildren, Isaac Babbs of Edwards, IL, and Emerson Feuerstein of Sioux Falls. She also leaves behind two sisters, Reneta McFerran and Audrey Rausch and one brother, Richard (Helen) Strohfus, all of Watertown; six sisters-in-law; one brother-in-law; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Agnes Strohfus; one brother, Norman Strohfus; and an infant son, Michael Dean Kannas. The family would like to thank the Prairie Lakes Hospice Team for their care, kindness and support.
