Description	:	Valerian L. "Val" Stallbaumer left this earth to join the Lord on January 14, 2013. He was born in Frankfort, KS on December 18, 1924 to Joseph and Mary (Boeckman) Stallbaumer. Val grew up on a farm near Lillis, KS and attended school there. He served in WW II fighting (Philippines) and receiving a purple heart. His service in Japan ended as a technical sergeant in 1945. Val attended Kansas State University where he met his wife of 53 years, Helen (Kreutzer) Stallbaumer. They married in 1949. Val earned an engineering degree and moved to Los Angeles, CA to work... Read More	Valerian L. "Val" Stallbaumer left this earth to join the Lord on January 14, 2013. He was born in Frankfort, KS on December 18, 1924 to Joseph and Mary (Boeckman) Stallbaumer. Val grew up on a farm near Lillis, KS and attended school there. He served in WW II fighting (Philippines) and receiving a purple heart. His service in Japan ended as a technical sergeant in 1945. Val attended Kansas State University where he met his wife of 53 years, Helen (Kreutzer) Stallbaumer. They married in 1949. Val earned an engineering degree and moved to Los Angeles, CA to work for North American Aviation. The family returned to Topeka where Val worked on the Kansas Turnpike project. Later he worked at Cessna in Wichita. Then in 1959 Val was hired by Boeing as a stress engineer until he retired in 1990. Val was very active at St. Anne Catholic Church in Wichita. He and his wife were founding members and lived 55 years in the same house just ½ block from the church. He served on many committees, was a Eucharistic minister and lector, organized the church collections, and was active in the Boy Scouts. He did most of the church landscaping and some maintenance for several years. He often found ways to help the St. Anne's teachers and office staff. Val was preceded in death by his parents; wife; brothers, Robert, Cletus, and Clarence; one grandchild. He is survived by sister, Louise Wagner of Lincoln, NE; and brother, Carol Joseph Stallbaumer of St. Joseph, MO; children, Stan (Joan) Stallbaumer, Wichita, Valerie Stallbaumer, Ames, IA, Daniel (Mary) Stallbaumer Wichita, Regina (Alex) Buxbaum, Portland, OR, and Philip (Rebecca) Stallbaumer, Camas, WA; grandchildren, Ryan, Kate, and Jacob Stallbaumer. Rosary at 7:00pm Thursday, January 17, and Funeral Mass at 10:00am Friday, January 18, both at St. Anne Catholic Church. Burial 1pm, Saturday, January 19, in Lillis, Kansas.
