She was born a daughter of Elijah Miles and Ella Ard Miles on April 17, 1933, in Florence County. She was a retired cook for Country Cousin BBQ. Miles Ard, 76, joined her beloved husband, David Raymond Ard, and her Lord and Savior in her eternal home Tuesday evening, March 23, 2010, at the her residence. She was born a daughter of Elijah Miles and Ella Ard Miles on April 17, 1933, in Florence County. She was a retired cook for Country Cousin BBQ. Over years served the SC Pentecostal Holiness Church as a cook for numerous annual events including camp meetings, youth camps, and other gatherings. She was a member of the Stone Chapel Pentecostal Holiness Church serving as a Sunday school teacher and in Women's Ministry for over 50 years. Raymond and Valerie were married September 16, 1950 and celebrated 37 years together. From their blessed union survives: four children, Steven M. Horne, Barbara Ann (Jimmy) Cook, Dorothy "Dottie" Barefoot, and Theresa (Barney) Anderson; seven grandchildren, and nine great-grandchild-ren. Also surviving is one sister, Letha M. Matthews-Douglas. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband; a son, Bobby Joe Ard; son-in-law, Roger Barefoot; nine brothers and three sisters. A Celebration of Life service will be 3 PM, Friday, March 26, 2010, in the Stone Chapel Pentecostal Holiness Church with interment in the Riverside Cemetery directed by the Hemingway Chapel of McKenzie Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 7-9PM Thursday evening March 25, 2010, in the sanctuary of the Stone Chapel PH Church. The Ard family extends a special appreciation to the staff of the Lake City Dialysis Center, the First Choice Transport, McLeod Hospice. McKenzie Funeral Home is honored to serve the Ard family.
