She married Kenneth A. Patterson on March 1, 1943 and he preceded her in death on September 10, 2002. A resident of Ottumwa most of her life, she was a graduate of Ottumwa High School. Valeta attended First Church of the Open Bible. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a devoted servant of the Lord her entire life. Surviving are her son, Mike (Mary) Patterson of Cedar Rapids; grandsons, Shawn (Debbie) Patterson of Central City and Matthew (Jessica) Kendall of Hugo, MN; 4 great-granddaughters, Avery, Makenna, Amillya and Celeste; a great-great-grandson, Easton; and a sister-in-law, Erma Jean Reeves of Ottumwa. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister and brother-in-law, Wilma and Bill Haines and a brother-in-law, John B. Reeves. Her body has been cremated. Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Friday at First Church of the Open Bible with Pastor Bill Hornback officiating. Inurnment will be in Shaul Cemetery. The family will be present at the church one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Essence of Life Hospice, 3207 220th Trail, Amana, IA 52203 Reece Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
