He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents; father, Neil; and his brother, Scott. Van had worked as a machinist at Thomberts in Newton for the last 1 1/2. Prior to that he worked at Midwest Manufacturing for 17 years, Moore Tool and Die for 5 years, and Montezuma Manufacturing for 6 years. He was a member of the Local UAW 997.
