Funeral services were held Jan. 2 at Fisher-Aldrich Funeral Home in Waukee with burial in Waukee Cemetery. Mr. Barkley was born Sept. 29, 1923 in Radcliffe to Oscar and Nora Barkley. On Sept. 20, 1944 he married Darleen Frette in Story City. Mr. Barkley was an inventory controller for Pittsburgh-Des Moines Steel and lived in Waukee prior to moving to Jewell 12 years ago. A U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, he was a member of the Story City American Legion Post #59. Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Vickie Freerksen of Waukee; one son, Steve Barkley of West Des Moines; one step-sister, Harriet Harris of Colorado; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his parents and his step-mother, Frances.
