CUMBERLAND-Vance Lahman "P-nut" Markwood, 89, of 801 Columbia Ave., Cumberland, died Saturday, Oct. 14, 2000, at Sacred Heart Hospital. Born on Feb. 2, 1911, in Keyser, W.Va., he was the son of the late James Wilson Markwood and Rose Elizabeth (Raines) Markwood. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Elizabeth M. (Rank) Markwood on Jan 4, 1998. Mr. Markwood was a retired employee of the City of Cumberland Flood Control. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II, and attended Fairview Avenue United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Acrie #245, life member of Fort Cumberland Post 13, American Legion, the Henry Hart Post 1411 VFW, a life member of the Cumberland Outdoor Club, Dapper Dan, and Fort Cumberland Lodge #211 A.F. & A.M. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He is survived by Judy Whisner, whom he readed, and her husband David, Cumberland; and several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Edward R. Dickel officiating. Interment will be in St. Luke's Cemetery. The Cumberland Aerie #245 Order of Eagles will conduct a memorial service at the funeral home on Sunday at 7:30 p.m. Military honors will be accorded at the grave-side by The Combined Veterans Honor Guard. Mr. Markwood served in the U.S. Army from Nov 15, 1943 thru Feb 9, 1946.
