She was born May 7, 1940, in Wichita, Kansas, the daughter of Harold and Lois (Jones) Maddox. She grew up in Wichita and graduated from high school there in 1958. Read More	Venetta Marie Brown (Died February 13, 2015) Venetta Marie Brown, 74, of Burlington, Kansas, passed away Friday morning, February 13, 2015, at her home. She was born May 7, 1940, in Wichita, Kansas, the daughter of Harold and Lois (Jones) Maddox. She grew up in Wichita and graduated from high school there in 1958. On June 28, 1958, she and Calvin Earl Brown were married in Wichita. They made their home in Wichita for two years, in LeRoy for five years, and then moved to Burlington. Venetta was a longtime member of the First Assembly of God in Burlington. She served as secretary for the church for many years. She was always interested in helping others, especially children. She was involved in the feeding program at the church where they made sure the youth group and other children enjoyed a good meal on Wednesday nights. She was active in the Harvester’s Program with the Coffey County Ministerial Alliance. She worked with the 21st Century After School Program at the Burlington Schools for a number of years until her retirement. She had been on Mission Trips to Togo, Africa and Honduras and was planning on going again until her health failed. In the summer of 2014 she organized the Summer Feeding Program at the Burlington Recreation Center, once again making sure children were taken care of and well fed. Although much of her life centered on her church and helping others she took great joy in her family. She loved doing needle and hand work, making things for her family. She made many quilts for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was truly a caring and giving person and made a difference in the lives of those around her. Her husband, Calvin, preceded her in death on July 22, 2012. She leaves her sons, Ron Brown and wife Brenda, Grandview, Missouri; Robert Brown and wife Michelle, Colby, Kansas, and Randall Brown and wife Anne, Burlington; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two brothers, Mickey Maddox, Alva, Oklahoma, Ed Maddox, Lawton, Oklahoma; five sisters, Carolee Mueller, Wichita, Joyce Wood, Reno, Nevada, Glenda Mah, Turner, Oregon, and twins, Glendyne Shull, Dayton, Nevada, and Geraldyne Daniels, Pittsburg, Pennsylvania; a number of nieces and nephews; many other relatives and friends. Cremation is planned. Memorial services will be held 10:30 A.M. Friday, February 20, 2015, at Jones Funeral Home in Burlington. Private inurnment will be in Graceland Cemetery in Burlington. Memorial contributions may be made to the Coffey County Cancer Support Group or Becky Hoshaw, Missionary to Honduras and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
