February 8, 1912 The Volga Tribune While it was known last week that Mr. Taylor was seriously ill with typhoid fever the community was terribly shocked Thursday to learn that he had passed away early that morning. During the summer and fall and up into the winter the deceased had been engaged in cement work at Pierre, having had a contract for a large amount of the cement work at the capitol grounds and also at the new building being erected at the Indian school at East Pierre. When the cold weather came on it was found almost impossible to continue the work at the Indian school and about three weeks before his death Mr. Taylor and his family returned to their home in this city. He was not feeling right well upon his arrival here, and in about a week or ten days after his return he was obliged to go to bed, typhoid fever having developed. His case was very serious from the first and Mrs. Lien, of Brookings, formerly matron at the local hospital, was called to nurse him. His condition was such, however, that he failed to respond to the work of the physicians and nurse, and he gradually grew weaker until he passed away on February first. The deceased was born at South Bend, Indiana,April third, 1860, and went from there to Madison, this state, in 1892. He was married to Miss Nettie Opdahl, May 21, 1893. After their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Taylor moved to Waverly, Iowa, where they resided for 13 years, coming to Volga in the spring of 1906. The deceased was one of the best cement men in this section, and, as stated above, he went to Pierre last spring and engaged in that work at the capitol and Indian school. He was a quiet, unassuming man and generally liked wherever known. In addition to the wife, two little children and four sisters are left to mourn his passing away, and the sympathy of one and all goes out to the bereaved family at this time. Funeral services were held at the home on Monday afternoon of this week, Rev. W.P. Lemon, pastor of the Presbyterian church, officiating, and the interment was in the cemetery south of the city.
