McCune, 80, Summitville, died Aug. 17, 2004, at Community Hospital in Anderson after a brief illness. He was born April 1, 1924, in Summitville, the son of Elzie McCune and Julia Ann (Morgan)McCune, and lived in Summitville all of his life. Vaughn was a graduate of Summitville High School with the class of 1942. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served his country in central Europe during World War II. He had been employed at the former Kraft Food Plant in Summitville for 14 years and then at Fisher Body Division of General Motors in Marion for 34 years, retiring in 1989. He was a retired member of the former Fisher Body United Auto Workers and the Sympathy Club. The pride and joy of his life was his family. He enjoyed being with them and watching his grandchildren grow up. He always looked forward to the time of year that he could plant his garden and tend to his flowers for he liked being outdoors. Vaughn never met an animal that he did not like and over the years he took in as many stray domestic animals that he could and always tried to provide food and sometimes shelter to the wild life in his area. During his quiet time in his home he always listened to music that he enjoyed. Survivors include two daughters, Lisa (Robbie) Fields and Karon (Daniel) Smith, all of Summitville; two sons, Randy (Stacy) McCune of Fort Wayne and Mike Glass of Summitville; a sister, Wanda Odom of Alexandria; four grandchildren, Bradley (Audra) Ragle, stationed with the U.S. Navy in Newport News, Va., and Brandon Ragle, Jake Fields and Casey Fields, all of Summitville; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Donna and Marvin Etchison of Alexandria, and Joan and Richard Fisher of Summitville; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Melba Marie McCune, in 1982; and a brother, Joseph Donald McCune. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Owens-Noffze Funeral Home, 1009 W. Walnut St., Summitville, with the Rev. Brian Wise of the Summitville United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Vinson Memorial Park Cemetery, Summitville. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Bone Transplant Program, Office of Gift Development, 1110 W.
