Description	:	VeAnna Hofer, 70, of Huron died Tuesday, April 22, 2008, at Nashville, Tenn. Her memorial service will be Saturday at Huron Mission Church with the Rev. Richard Birr officiating. Burial will be in Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Arrangements are with Kuhler Funeral Home. VeAnna Fern Decker was born to Paul and Elsie (Hofer) Decker April 4, 1938. She grew up on the homestead farm north of Freeman. VeAnna graduated from Sunshine 26 County School and in 1956 from Freeman Academy. In 1958 she graduated from Freeman Junior College with a teaching certificate. In grade school during Bible school she accepted Jesus as her personal savior and was baptized while in high school. On Aug. 12, 1958, VeAnna married Martin (Marty) E. Hofer. For two years they lived in Woonsocket, where she taught school. They moved to Huron in 1960 where VeAnna taught in various Beadle County schools until 1963. Martin and VeAnna briefly lived in Bridgewater, but moved back to Huron in the fall of 1964. VeAnna spent several years at home raising children. From 1970 to 1981 VeAnna was a teacher's aide at Jefferson Elementary School. From 1981 to 2005 she was a driver for People's Transit. She was honored for her service in 2002 when she received a Department of Transportation award from the state of South Dakota and was named "Driver of the Year." VeAnna retired from People's Transit in May 2005. VeAnna was an active member of Huron Mission Church. She enjoyed working out at the Nordby Center, watching basketball on TV and attending basketball games at every level, hosting a Bible study (which she did for more than 25 years), spending time playing games, going out for coffee or ice cream with friends, listening to contemporary Christian music and visiting her children and grandchildren. She constantly sent cards of congratulations, sympathy and encouragement to friends and family. When talking with people, VeAnna made a point of physically touching them because she wanted them to feel loved. She was a huge encourager and an example of Christ's love to all she met. Grateful for having shared her life are her four children, Marlin and wife, Janice Hofer of Rochester, Minnesota, Venette and husband, Larry Stack of Nashville, Tennessee, Marwin and wife, Karen Hofer of Aberdeen and Vyleen and husband, Jack Yoder of Mason Neck, Virginia; and six grandchildren, Laura Elizabeth Stack, Andrew (Andy) Martin Stack, Emily Rebecca Stack, Caleb Paul Hofer (Son of Marlin and Janice Hofer), Abigail AnnaRose Hofer (Daughter of Marlin and Janice) and Brooklyn Sue Hofer (Daughter of Marwin and Karen Hofer).
