Description	:	Veda Marie (Bailey) McCarty was born September 19, 1933 in the countryside near Wiota, Iowa, the daughter of Iris (Heckman) Bailey and Thomas W. Bailey. She grew up attending Maple Grove Country School and graduated from Anita High School with the class of 1951. On July 26, 1959, she married Laverne McCarty. Read More	Veda Marie (Bailey) McCarty was born September 19, 1933 in the countryside near Wiota, Iowa, the daughter of Iris (Heckman) Bailey and Thomas W. Bailey. She grew up attending Maple Grove Country School and graduated from Anita High School with the class of 1951. On July 26, 1959, she married Laverne McCarty. Four children were born to bless their lives, Katie Sue in 1960, Karl Thomas in 1961, Kimberly Ann in 1962 and Karen Kay in 1964. Her love of books, handwork, and children filled both her career and personal life. Before being married she volunteered with many of the Anita 4-H and church clubs. Her first job was with Anita High School as their school board secretary. After marriage and moving to Prescott in 1959, she worked with Prescott youth as well. Veda worked for the Prescott Community School in the library and continued to encourage the love of reading at the Corning Public Library before becoming the director at the Prescott Pubic Library, retiring only a few years ago. She accomplished many other things in her life including being the first woman president of the Adams County Farm Bureau Board. Veda was a member of the Prescott Disciples of Christ church for over 50 years. She loved her church and helped in many various capacities, but her favorite was being a member of the Prescott Church Quilters. Her hands were always busy resulting in many beautiful quilts and afghans she embroidered and crocheted for her family. Even after losing the use of her right hand, she was able to adapt to using her left to continue to create these beautiful keepsakes. Veda will be especially remembered around the community as someone who was always willing to help out. She was happiest when her house was full. Her contentment was just listening to all the families converging for family gatherings and reunions. She was known for her great home-cooked meals and the fact no one ever left her home hungry. Friday was her favorite day, as she looked forward to her coffee club at the library and catching up with everyone from the old neighborhood. Left to cherish her memory are her husband of fifty-three years, Laverne McCarty of Prescott, four children, daughter Katie and husband Tim Rhamy of Corning, Karl and wife Julie McCarty of Prescott, Kimberly and husband Michael Fourez of Corning, and Karen and husband Mark Finck of Rock Valley, a sister Vesta Duensing of Metaire, Louisiana, and brother Varel and wife Jackie Bailey of Anita, one sister in law Carol and Ken Foster of Creston. Grandchildren, Ryan and Rusty Rhamy, Alexander and Ciara McCarty, Miaya Fourez, Lyla, Rebecca, and Tyrel Finck, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death are her parents, Thomas and Iris Bailey; her brother Verde, brother in-law Loren, and her in-laws Charlie and Nellie McCarty. Published Ritchie Funeral Home website
