Description	:	Velda D. Monroe, 67, a forty year resident of Leavenworth, died Thursday morning, August 4, 2005, at Central Washington Hospital. She was born on September 28, 1937, to Russell William and Margaret M. (Cline) Sweat at Twisp, Washington. In 1939, the family moved to Leavenworth, and in 1941, they moved to Bellingham. In 1943, they returned to Leavenworth, where she grew up and received her education, graduating from Leavenworth High School in 1956. On February 24, 1956, she married John Monroe at Moses Lake. (Cline) Sweat at Twisp, Washington. In 1939, the family moved to Leavenworth, and in 1941, they moved to Bellingham. In 1943, they returned to Leavenworth, where she grew up and received her education, graduating from Leavenworth High School in 1956. On February 24, 1956, she married John Monroe at Moses Lake. They later moved to Georgetown, and later to Burien. While there, Velda worked at Sears Roebuck and Company. She later returned to Leavenworth and worked at Sears Roebuck in East Wenatchee, and later was employed by the Chieftain Restaurant in Wenatchee. For several years, she worked at the Edelweiss Restaurant in Leavenworth. Together with her sister, Sandra, she started the Little Swiss Cleaning. From 1989 to 2000, she was employed by Sandy's Waffle and Dinner Haus in Leavenworth. Velda then worked at the Tafy Shop in Leavenworth until her death. While in high school, she was a member of the Rainbow Girls, through the O.E.S. Cascade Chapter in Leavenworth, and when her sons were young, she was a Cub Scout Leader for Den 7. Velda was a avid Mariner fan and enjoyed traveling and playing Pinochle. She enjoyed oil painting, rock painting and Tole painting. Velda was a loving mother and had a generous heart, and always had time for and enjoyed other people. She is survived by three sons, Stephen Monroe and William J. "Willie" Monroe, both of Leavenworth, and Randall Lee Monroe of Spokane; three brothers, Darrell Sweat of Wenatchee, Dennis Sweat of Dryden, and Ronald Sweat of Malaga; three sisters, Sandra Hendrickson of Leavenworth, Viva Gay Neese of Peshastin, and Marggie Simmons of Leavenworth; her mother, Margaret Sweat of Leavenworth; and two grandchildren, Randall Lee Monroe, Jr. and Dianna Marie Monroe. She was preceded in death by her father in 1981; two brothers, Alfred and William "Bill" Sweat; and an infant sister. A Funeral Service of Commemoration to Celebrate the Life of Velda D. Monroe will be conducted at 2:00 Tuesday afternoon, August 9, 2005, in the Ward's Funeral Chapel, with Pastor Mike McGrath officiating. Those wishing to make visitation may call at the Ward's Funeral Chapel, Monday, August 8, 2005, between noon and 7:00 p.m. Concluding service and Interment will follow in the Mt. View Cemetery. Ward's Funeral Chapel, Leavenworth, is in charge of the arrangements.
