Description	:	Velda Dean Kallebach Kroeger 90, of Santa Barbara, California, formerly of Grand Mound, Iowa, died Monday, August 5, 2013 at Santa Barbara Convalescent Hospital, where she had lived for several years. Velda was born on the family farm south of Grand Mound, August 22, 1922, the eldest child of Alfred and Martha (Stankee) Kallenbach. Velda was a graduate of Grand Mound High School. She was married to Roland L. Kroeger of Davenport, Iowa, for 17 years. She lived in Des Moines, Iowa, prior to moving to California in 1976, to be near her daughters. Read More	Velda Dean Kallebach Kroeger 90, of Santa Barbara, California, formerly of Grand Mound, Iowa, died Monday, August 5, 2013 at Santa Barbara Convalescent Hospital, where she had lived for several years. Velda was born on the family farm south of Grand Mound, August 22, 1922, the eldest child of Alfred and Martha (Stankee) Kallenbach. Velda was a graduate of Grand Mound High School. She was married to Roland L. Kroeger of Davenport, Iowa, for 17 years. She lived in Des Moines, Iowa, prior to moving to California in 1976, to be near her daughters. Velda worked as a waitress for many years and was very proud of her profession. She loved animals and enjoyed gardening, swimming and needlepoint. Velda loved her life in sunny California, but remained an "Iowa girl" at heart. Surviving are her children, Rene R. (Donene) Kroeger of Bondurant, Iowa, Marsha K. Welsher of South Freeport, Maine, and Rhea J. (Ron) Hubbard of Hawaii; two grandsons, a granddaughter and three great-grandsons; a sister, Dorthy Lichtenstein of Grand Mound; a brother, Gerald (Claire) Kallenbach of Port Clinton, Iowa; nieces and nephews. Preceding Velda in death were a grandson, Scott Kroeger, a son-in-law, Larry Welsher and sisters, Vivian Cargill and Dolores Elleson. Arline Dunn O''Connor, her youngest sister, passed away just 10 days after Velda, on August 15, 2013. Interment will be at Springdale Cemetery in Clinton, Iowa.
