(Kluver) Hansohn (1920 - 1992) Velma A. Hansohn was born on November 19, 1920, the daughter of Jacob and Bertha Schlie Kluver. She died on Wednesday, Dec. 2, 1992 at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison at the age of seventy-two years. Velma was born in Goodrich Township and raised on a farm near Ricketts and received her education in a rural school near her home. For a number of years, Velma worked as needed for neighboring farm homes before being united in marriage to Edwin Jacoby on June 22, 1942 at the St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Defiance, Ia. The couple settled on a farm near Defiance and were blessed with the birth of five children. In 1964 they moved to a farm east of Denison where they lived for four years. In 1968 they purchased and operated a bar in Denison until 1973. In 1970, Edwin passed away and on June 10, 1978, Velma was united in marriage to Edward Hansohn at the St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Denison. They made their home in Kiron where she lived at the time of her death. She was a loving and caring wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed baking and socializing in a game of cards. She worked hard throughout her life, and enjoyed the warmth of her children and grandchildren. Velma was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Edwin; and two children, Diane in 1948 and Dean in 1950 and one brother, Raymond. Survivors include her husband, Edward Hansohn of Kiron; two sons, Dennis Jacoby and his wife, Ilene of Denison, Duane Jacoby and his wife, Kathy of Denison; one daughter, Pat Messenbrink and her husband, David of Denison; one stepson, Allen Hansohn and his wife, Sandy of Kiron. Other survivors include eight grandchildren, Dawn (Mrs. Troy) Groth of Ames, Michelle, Matthew, Melissa, Meggan and Michael Jacoby of Denison, Mickelle and Justin Messenbrink of Denison; also two step-grandchildren, Jennifer and Brianna Hansohn of Kiron; and one great-grandchild, Tyler Groth of Ames; one brother, Albert Kluver and his wife, Dorothy of Carroll; and one sister, Dorothy Stein and her husband, Archie of Ida Grove, several nieces, nephews and a host of friends. Services were held Saturday, Dec. 5 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Denison at 10 a.m. with burial in the St. Peter and Paul Cemetery in Defiance. Pallbearers were Joe Mechura, Dr. J.M. Hennessy, Gene Schram, Jerry Kluver, Melvin Kenkel and Keith Adams. Huebner and Sons' Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of the arrangements. Transcribed by: Thomas Kruse
