Velma Evelyn Larson was born on May 28, 1918 on a farm in Lincoln County near Canton, South Dakota, the daughter of Oscar and Christine (Brynjulson) Larson. She grew up in the Canton area and attended Augustana Academy in Canton. She moved to Evanston, Illinois (near Chicago) during World War II. Velma Evelyn Larson was born on May 28, 1918 on a farm in Lincoln County near Canton, South Dakota, the daughter of Oscar and Christine (Brynjulson) Larson. She grew up in the Canton area and attended Augustana Academy in Canton. She moved to Evanston, Illinois (near Chicago) during World War II. On October 21, 1945 she was united in marriage to LeRoy Johnson at Grand Valley Church, rural Canton. Following their marriage they lived in Canton, Lennox and Oregon. They returned to South Dakota near Davis until moving into Lennox in 1989. LeRoy died on November 25, 1989. Velma worked at a radio transistor factory in Canton. She was a member of First English Lutheran Church, Lennox. Besides her parents and husband, Velma was preceded in death by one brother, Arthur Larson and one son, Maynard Johnson on October 13, 2013. Grateful for having shared her life are her two sons: Carlyle (Cyndi) Johnson of Ft. Worth, Texas and Joel (Karon) Johnson of Sacramento, CA; eight grandchildren: Todd (Shawn) Johnson, Kim Johnson, Chase Johnson, Nicholas (Stephanie) Johnson, Krisi Johnson, Kelsey Johnson, Janae Johnson and Brandon Johnson; four great-grandchildren: Bailey, Ally, Bryce and Travis; one sister, Roma Larson, Lennox and one sister-in-law, Betty Larson, Fairview and other relatives and friends.
