Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 25, at the Palmer & Swank Funeral Home, Rockwell City, with Pastor James Hoover Mossman officiating. Cremation will follow the Funeral Service and burial will be at Cedar Township Cemetery, near Rinard, at a later date. Velma is survived by her sons, Ronald Lyle and his wife Kathy of Saint Johns, FL, and Roger Lyle and his friend Sharon of Gretna, NE; grandson Jacob Lyle of Mt. Holly, NC; sisters, Arlene Sandeen of Gowrie, and Dorothy Siemann and her husband Francis of Lohrville; and brother Cleo Cafferty and his wife Jean of Gowrie; and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter Raymond and Carrie Clara Pirie Cafferty. Velma Ione Cafferty Lyle was born Jan. 2, 1922 on a farm near Rinard, Iowa. She attended schools at Rinard and graduated from Rinard Consolidated School, with the Class of 1940. On Nov. 29, 1941 she was united in marriage to Kenny Lyle and they divorced in 1966. Velma raised her two sons, Ronald and Roger. She worked for several years at the 17-20 Café, and then Ted & Evy's Café. In 1967, Velma worked as a nurse's aide at the Sunny Knoll Care Centre, until her retirement in 1984. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church, Rockwell City. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
