Description	:	BENKELMAN -- Velma Jane (Baney) Cline, 91, died Saturday (May 16, 2009) at Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook. She was born Jan. 13, 1918, at Benkelman to William Arthur and Mary Amanda (Richard) Baney. She graduated from Benkelman High School in 1937 and furthered her education at the Hastings Business College. Read More	BENKELMAN -- Velma Jane (Baney) Cline, 91, died Saturday (May 16, 2009) at Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook. She was born Jan. 13, 1918, at Benkelman to William Arthur and Mary Amanda (Richard) Baney. She graduated from Benkelman High School in 1937 and furthered her education at the Hastings Business College. On Feb. 19, 1941, she married James Max Cline at Benkelman, and they lived on a farm north of Parks. In 1998, they retired from farming and moved to McCook. After the death of her husband, she continued to live in McCook. She lived in Willow Ridge for a short time before moving to the Hillcrest Nursing Home in April of 2009. She was a 50-year member of the United Methodist Church, and was active in the Parks Methodist Church until it burned down on Dec. 7, 1977. She then transferred her membership to the Benkelman United Methodist Church where she continued her involvement in the UMW and Women's Circle. She was a 4-H Leader for cooking and sewing for many years, and was a sponsor for Y-Teens. Preceding her in death were her parents, William and Mary Baney; husband, James Max Cline in October of 2008; three brothers, Evertt Baney, Dale Baney and Billie Baney; and brothers-in-law, Junior Andres, Delbert Nelson, Jack Whiteside, Lyle Hansen, and Ed Zimbleman. Survivors include her daughters, Merril Jane McMichael and husband, Marvin of Gothenburg and Erlene May Coghill and husband, Jim of Ogallala; sisters, Elila Whiteside of San Antonio, Texas, Ruby Stock and husband, Bill of McCook, Leta Andres of Benkelman, Bonnie Nelson of Denver, Colo., Helen Hansen and husband, Wilfred of Benkelman and Barbara Pursley and husband, Earl of McCook; brother, Jimmie Baney and wife, Mary of Benkelman; sisters-in-law, Delorse Baney of Payton, Colo., and Donna Baney of Benkelman; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Visitation will be at Forch Funeral Chapel of Benkelman on Tuesday from 2 - 6 p.m. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. (MDT) at United Methodist Church in Benkelman with the Rev. Brian Fong officiating. Interment will follow services at the Benkelman Cemetery. It is suggested that memorials be given to the Benkelman United Methodist Church or to the National Arthritis Foundation. Arrangements are under the direction of Forch Funeral Chapel of Benkelman.
