Description	:	OBIT; Velma L. Chevalier, of Issaquah, died on Monday, June 24, 2002 at Providence Marianwood in Issaquah. She was 89 years of age. Velma was born on August 8, 1912 in Toppenish, Washington, the daughter of Frank and Rose Ann Counts. When she was a young girl the family moved to Snoqualmie where she attended school. She married to Albert "Ab" Anderson in 1929 and he preceded her in death in 1931. She married John Chevalier in 1939. They were married for 47 years prior to his death in 1987. Velma was born on August 8, 1912 in Toppenish, Washington, the daughter of Frank and Rose Ann Counts. When she was a young girl the family moved to Snoqualmie where she attended school. She married to Albert "Ab" Anderson in 1929 and he preceded her in death in 1931. She married John Chevalier in 1939. They were married for 47 years prior to his death in 1987. Velma worked for Tanska's Egg Company candeling eggs for a few years in the early 1940's. Later she served as a general clerk for SeaFirst Bank in Issaquah for 21 years prior to her retirement in 1968. She was active in local government and community events including serving on Issaquah's Planning Commission, Professional Business Women's Association, Historical Society, and the Issaquah High School Scholarship Committee. Velma was a long standing member of the Community Baptist Church, now known as the Community Church of Issaquah. She also was Past Noble Grand of Gilman Rebekah Lodge #59 and a 68 year member. She recently received the Degree of Chivalry which is the highest degree one can achieve in Rebekah. In addition she was a member of Eastern Star Century Chapter #66 a former member of the Issaquah Valley Grange #581 and a life member of the Ladies Auxiliary to the V.F.W. Post 3436. Velma is survived by two brothers, Lyle Counts, of Issaquah and Ed Counts, of Albany, Oregon; four grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her one son Jerry L. Anderson in 1994. A memorial service was held 11 A.M. Saturday, June 29, 2002 at the Community Church of Issaquah.
