Mrs Jane Dyne, also of Homer, driver of the car, was the third victim. ~~ In US 12 one of three women killed mistakenly identified: Coroner R.D Scott of Marshall said today there would be no inquest into the auto-bus collision on US-12 between here and Marshall Saturday night in which three women were killed and a man injured. Those killed were Mrs James/Jane Dye, 26, Wife of Pvt Maurice Dye, serving in German. Mrs Vely Koons 25 and Mrs Virginia Brooks, 27 of Homer, through a birth certificate of Mrs Brooks found in the purse of one of the women at the scene of the wreckage. Her Father George Brooks of Marshall , said however, that his daughter is employed in Chicago and shortly after he had viewed the body Deputy Sheriff Merle Edwards of Homer identified it as Miss Smith. Adelbert K Taylor 29 also of Homer, the other occupant of the car in which the women were riding, was removed to his home from Oaklawn Hospital in Marshall Sunday. He suffered only cuts and bruises. Coming to Battle Creek Taylor said today that the four were en route to Battle Creek about 11:45 pm Saturday night and that Mrs Dye was driving and he was seated in the front seat of the car with her and the other two women were in the rear seat. Mrs Dye had attempted to pass another car going in the same direction in front of the Mar Creek Inn when she saw a approaching East-bound greyhound bus. She was unable to drive the car out of the path of the bus and the two crashed head on. In the impact Taylor was thrown clear of the wreckage and Mrs Dye's ((Edited) by FBW) The deaths of Mrs Dye and Mrs Koons was almost instantaneous and Miss Smith was dead on admittance to the hospital, Mr Scott Said. The car, owned by Taylor's brother was completely wrecked and the bus so badly damaged in the front that i had to be towed away. Miss Smith's father, Ward Smith of Route 3 Homer, a guard at Southern Michigan Prison, said that his daughter was employed at the Gehrig 5 and 10 cent store in Homer, and had been expecting and Albion "Boy Friend" just back from the service over to see her Saturday night. He said she telephoned home shortly before 10 pm and asked if he had come and when informed that he had not, said two homer girls had invited her to go to Battle Creek with them and she "guessed she would go". There was an unusually heavy traffic Saturday night and it required sheriff's officers, state police of Battle Creek city police summoned for the emergency, to direct and control the traffic at the crash scene, which was just east of a bad US 12 curve. ~~ Mrs Dye was born March 25 1919 in Eckford Twp,. the daughter of Jay and Bernice Hoffman, now of River Rogue. She attended Eckford and Homer schools and was married Aug 4 1935 to Maurice Dye. In addition to her her husband and parents she is survived by a daughter Donna Jean 9. four sisters Mrs Elsie Faust of Homer and the Misses Ruth, Eleanor and Marion Hoffman of River Rouge and a brother Elmer Hoffman now en route home from service with the marines in China. Funeral services fro her will be conducted by the Rev George Cameron of Marengo from the Mains chapel at 2 pm Wednesday. ~~ Worked in Albion Mrs Koons was born May 26 1920 at Sallerville Ky the daughter of Walter and Dulcine Nichols and came to this locality with her parents as a girl. She attended the Billman District School and was married May 25 1935 to Clyde Koons. She has a son William 7 and was employed at the Union Steel Products Ci in Albion. Also surviving her parents, husband and son and four brothers. Woodrow, Thomas, Harry and Samuel Nichols and a sister, Miss Anna Mae Nichols . of of Bentley's Corners in Clarendon Twp. Mains chapel and burial will be in the Fisher Cemetery, ~~ Miss Smith was born April 11 1926, in Clarendon Twp, the daughter of Ward and Helen Smith. She graduated from Homer high school in 1944. Surviving besides her parents are two brothers, Laverno and Norman at home. ~~ Mr Taylor is the son of Mrs Emma Taylor of Homer and has two sisters, Mrs Fred Thompson of Albion and Mrs Orlo Drum of Marshall and four brothers, William just back from army service in Germany, Ronald residing west of Homer and Phillip at home and Theodore in the Navy . ~~ Father: Walter Nichols Mother: Dulcene Cornwell (4/11/1893) Siblings: Thomas, Harry, Woodrow, Samuel Married: Clyde Donald Koons on 5/18/1936 Calhoun Co Mi Children: 1.
