Description	:	Venita Kay Kitzke, 72 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Sunday, June 25, 2017 at the Christian Homes Care Community in Holdrege. Venita was born on January 20, 1945 in Holdrege, to Harold and Myrtle (Johnson) Upson. She received her education from schools in Atlanta, Nebraska, rural Elm Creek R-3, Bertrand, Nebraska and Holdrege. Read More	Venita Kay Kitzke, 72 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Sunday, June 25, 2017 at the Christian Homes Care Community in Holdrege. Venita was born on January 20, 1945 in Holdrege, to Harold and Myrtle (Johnson) Upson. She received her education from schools in Atlanta, Nebraska, rural Elm Creek R-3, Bertrand, Nebraska and Holdrege. In 1965, she was united in marriage to Dave Smith, and to this union two children were born: Sharon and Michael. They later divorced. Venita was employed at Becton-Dickinson for 29 years, before relocating to Kansas. Once returning to Holdrege, Venita worked at McDonald’s until her health began to fail. Venita loved to dance, play bingo, and listen to old country, 50’s, 60’s, and country gospel music. She was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #3231 of Holdrege and the ladies auxiliary. Besides her parents, Venita was preceded in death by her brother, Robert Upson and her niece, Martika Johnson. She leaves to celebrate her life; her two children: Sharon Cherry and her husband, Jim of Franklin, Nebraska, and Michael Smith and his wife, Lia of Holdrege; 5 grandchildren: Tylor, Tonya, Latasha and Cheyenne of Franklin, and Austin Mason of Aurora, Nebraska; one sister, Margaret Duffy of Bertrand, Nebraska; brother-in-law, Ron Smith of Holdrege; special friend, Margie Murphy of Holdrege; and a host of other relatives and friends. There will be no visitation, the family is honoring Venita’s wish for cremation. Memorial Services for Venita K. Kitzke will be held on Friday, June 30, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at the Mount Calvary Lutheran Church in Holdrege, Nebraska with Pastor Dan Wiese officiating. A private family inurnment will be held following the service. The Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege is in charge of the arrangements.
