Description	:	Vera Evelyn Rogers, 93, long time Colfax resident, passed away Thursday, Nov. 6, 2008 at the Whitman Health & Rehab Center in Colfax. A funeral service will be held Friday, Nov. 14th at 1:30 at the Onecho Bible Church. Graveside service with vault interment will precede the church service at 1:00 at the Onecho Cemetery. Pastor Don Aeschliman will officiate. Viewing will be at Bruning Funeral Home on Wednesday and Thursday from 9-5 both days. Vera was born Nov. 5, 1915 in Cozad, Nebraska to Charles E. and Inez Baldwin Buckley. She grew up there and graduated from nearby Lexington High School. Her family moved to the Milton-Freewater, Oregon area when she was a young woman. They later moved to Walla Walla and from there Vera found work at Lancaster (near St. John) with a farm family. She met Norman Rogers at a church social and the couple married June 7, 1941 in Walla Walla. They made their home in the Onecho area where they farmed together for many years. Vera kept busy helping on the farm and as a wife and mother. They moved into Colfax in 1978 and for the last five years Vera has made her home at the care center. Norman passed away last year. Vera was active in the Onecho Bible Church, women's ministries at the church, as a Sunday School teacher and as a member of the Christian Women's Club. She was one who never said "no" and always made things work out. She was a 4H leader, she loved to do crafts of many types, especially sewing. She was an excellent cook and known for her hearty harvest meals. Vera loved to spend time with her family and especially her grandchildren. She is survived by her two daughters and their families; Rosalinda and Ed Schluneger and Sharon and Chuck Lyman all of Colfax; 5 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild; 3 sisters, Elda Schluneger of Colfax, Eunice Wilson of Wheatland, CA. and Jean Wing of Milton-Freewater, OR., and her brother, Vernon Buckley of Spokane. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and 4 siblings, Charles, Jr., Glen, Lois and Lucille. The family suggests memorials to the Onecho Bible Church Missions Fund or to the Colfax EMT's. Bruning Funeral Home of Colfax is in charge of the arrangements.
