(Mike) Paulsen died in the St. Luke Hospital, Cedar Rapids, Iowa late Sunday afternoon, December 19, 1982 after a short illness. Vera Genevieve Horton was born in Onslow, Iowa on September 19, 1910. She was the daughter of Ernest A. Horton and his wife Pearl Sutton Horton. She had received her early education in the area schools of Onslow and Wyoming, Iowa, then transferring to the Monticello High School, Monticello, Iowa graduating with the Class of 1927.Following her education she taught in the rural schools of Jones County, Iowa. Vera Genevieve Horton and Meinhardt P. (Mike) Paulsen were married in the Wayne Zion Lutheran Church, Monticello, Iowa on December 31, 1931. The couple then farmed in Scotch Grove Township Jones County, Iowa. After the death of her husband, February 23, 1971, Mrs. Paulsen continued living on the home farm. She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church, Wyoming, Iowa. She was active in community affairs, the church, Scotch Grove Community Club and the American Cancer Society. Mrs. Paulsen is survived by her three children, Ilene, Mrs. Paul Klein of Stamford, Conn.; Dr. James R. Paulsen of Alexandria, Virginia and Dr. Kenneth L. Paulsen of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She is also survived by twelve grandchildren and a sister, Gladys, Mrs. Fred Ladehoff of Aitken, Minn. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and a brother. Funeral services were held at one thirty o'clock, Thursday, afternoon, December 23, 1982 in the Zion Lutheran Church, Wyoming, Iowa and interment was in the Wayne Zion Cemetery, Monticello, Iowa. Rev. James A. Mattson officiated at the services. Casket bearers were Marvin Holst, Calvin Reiss, Ronald Paulsen, Neal Allen. Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello, Iowa was in charge of arrangements.
