She departed this life on Friday, April 17, 2015 at Hastings, Nebraska at the age of 92 years. Shuck the daughter of Will and Marie (Rabbe) Schlachter was born August 2, 1922 at Glenvil, Nebraska. She departed this life on Friday, April 17, 2015 at Hastings, Nebraska at the age of 92 years. Vera grew up in the Glenvil/Edgar Nebraska communities and graduated from Edgar High School with the class of 1940. Vera was then united in marriage to Wendell “Tuffy” Shuck on July 8, 1940. This union was blessed with the birth of three sons. Wendell and Vera moved to San Pedro, California from 1940 to 1948. Wendell and Vera returned to the Edgar area and began a farming interest as well as starting Shuck Well Drilling. The couple expanded their well drilling operation establishing a business in Yuma, AZ in 1980 which is operating yet today. Vera and Wendell resided in Yuma and Edgar until 2003 when they retired to the Edgar area living in the Kirchoff house. Vera had been an avid quilter. She created her own dolls from scratch, firing porcelain in her kiln, hand painting the dolls as well as making the clothing they wore. Vera had been a long time member of the Church of the Plains in Edgar. Vera always enjoyed being with her family and cherished the time she spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband Wendell; parents and 3 siblings. Survivors include her sons: Gary Shuck and wife Carolyn of Edgar, NE; Dennis Shuck and wife Karen of Edgar, NE; Dale Shuck of Hastings, NE; sisters: Merna Kinnison of Lincoln, NE; Lylis Stephenson of Palm Springs, CA and a brother Harlan Schlachter of Hansen, NE; 8 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews other relatives and a host of friends. Funeral services will be held this Tuesday 10:30 AM April 21, 2015 at the Church of the Plains in Edgar, Nebraska. Pastor Kathryn Bates will be officiating. Burial will be held in the Edgar Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Church of the Plains or the Edgar American Legion. Condolences may be sent to the family at wmsfh.com.
