Irene was the third of nine children born to Fernando and Irene Bowker Trembly. She grew up on farms in the Benkelman and Haigler, Nebraska areas. She married Roy Douglass on February 12, 1930. Read More	Holyoke Enterprise, Holyoke, Colorado, September 29, 2005 Vera Irene Douglass, 97, of Holyoke died September 21, 2005. Vera Irene Trembly was born May 8, 1908 near Benkelman, Nebraska. Irene was the third of nine children born to Fernando and Irene Bowker Trembly. She grew up on farms in the Benkelman and Haigler, Nebraska areas. She married Roy Douglass on February 12, 1930. After living in Twin Lakes and Fort Collins for a short time, the family relocated to rural Holyoke. Roy and Irene moved into Holyoke in 1970. Irene then moved to the Carriage House in 2001 and Prairie Vista Care Center in 2004. Irene kept busy caring for her children, shocking feed, cooking for cowboys, working in a cafe and driving a beet truck. She tended her vegetable and flower gardens, preserved produce, quilted, made crafts, recorded genealogy and did baby-sitting. Over 150 children were cared for in her home over many years, and Irene even attempted to offer child care while living at the Carriage House. Many will remember her home baked cinnamon rolls. Irene was a continuous member of the American Legion Auxiliary for 64 years. She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Roy Douglass, stepson Jim Douglass, sons Archie and Carroll Douglass, son-in-law Amel Peterson, daughter-in-law Irene Douglass, two grandsons, four great granddaughters and her brothers and sisters. Irene is survived by her son Rex Douglass of Buena Vista; daughters Eunice Peterson of Imperial, Nebraska, Esther Poe and husband Don of Holyoke, Gladys Walgren and husband Ed of Beaverton, Oregon and Joan Roskop and husband Ken of Wray; daughters-in-law Arlyce Douglass of Wall, South Dakota, Bijie Anderson and husband Deane of Holyoke; 23 grandchildren; 49 great grandchildren; 23 great, great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and friends. Servcies for Irene Douglass were held Monday, September 26 at the First Christian Church in Holyoke with internment at Holyoke Memorial Park.
