Sympathy notes may be left to the family at www.lewisfuneralhomes.com. Vera LaVerne Montgomery was born on August 7, 1920, in Monmouth, Illinois, the daughter of Henry Wayne and Ellen F. (Hinkle) Montgomery. She was united in marriage to Harold Whitacre on December 24, 1944, who passed on March 23, 1955. Later she was united in marriage to Ernest T. Beatty on January 27, 1957, who passed in 1994. LaVerne was a past member of the Trinity Episcopal Church, Trinity Guild, and Beta Sigma Phi and had served on the board of the Musser Museum. She had been a Cub Scout Leader, a member of the Little League Women’s Auxiliary, and taught First Aid for the Red Cross. LaVerne also worked for the Fishburn and Fishburn law offices before her marriage to Ernest. LaVerne enjoyed oil painting, quilting, knitting and was very involved with her family. She was also a cancer survivor. LaVerne will be deeply missed by her children, Jan Whitacre and wife, Susan of Honolulu, Hawaii, Lynn Whitacre and wife, Kathy of Hollywood, Florida, Gary Whitacre and wife, Mary of Muscatine and Terry Beatty and wife, Erika of Liberty, Missouri; 10 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and twin sister, Lucille Knapp of Pittsfield, Illinois.
