Hocke, the daughter of Carl and Emma (Tourte) Hocke, was born May 2, 1918 at Paton, Iowa and departed this life August 12, 2010 at the Greene County Long Term Care Facilities in Jefferson, Iowa. She lived her life to the age of 92 years, 3 months and 8 days. Vera attended and graduated from Paton Consolidated High School in 1936. She attended college in Cedar Falls, Iowa for two years and later received her degree in Greeley, Colorado. Hocke, the daughter of Carl and Emma (Tourte) Hocke, was born May 2, 1918 at Paton, Iowa and departed this life August 12, 2010 at the Greene County Long Term Care Facilities in Jefferson, Iowa. She lived her life to the age of 92 years, 3 months and 8 days. Vera attended and graduated from Paton Consolidated High School in 1936. She attended college in Cedar Falls, Iowa for two years and later received her degree in Greeley, Colorado. She taught school in Rippey and Algona, Iowa and then moved to Vancouver, Washington where she taught and lived for 41 years. During that time, she spent time with the American Dependent School in Okinawa, Germany and France. In 1978, she retired from teaching after 40 years. She spent the next 10 years traveling. In 1989, she returned to Jefferson. She attended the Jefferson United Methodist Church and was a member of the Federated Friday Club, the CZ Chapter of PEO and the Greene County Historical Society. As well as traveling, Vera enjoyed reading and playing bridge. Those who preceded her in death were her parents, a brother, John Hocke and a sister, Lois Wright. Vera is survived by two sisters Avis Peninger and Lola Hocke, sister-in-law, Marion Hocke, all of Jefferson; 1 niece and 4 nephews. Funeral services were held at 4:00 P.M. Sunday, August 15, 2010 at the Brown Funeral Home in Jefferson with Pastor Charlene Wolfe officiating. Musical selections were played by organist, Carson Griffith. A private family graveside service was held at the Paton Township Cemetery in Paton on Sunday afternoon. Memorials: given in Vera's name to the Jefferson United Methodist Church, Greene County Historical Society Museum, Jefferson Public Library, Greene County Medical Center Long Term or Iowa Hospice.
