Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, November 28, 2016 at the Coon Rapids United Methodist Church with Rev. Joyce Webb officiating. Organist for the service will be Lula Garnes and soloist will be Cindy Seastrom. Casket bearers will be Scott Paulson, Anthony Bass, David Bass, Ryan Bass, Cody Herold, and Cole Herold. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, November 28, 2016 at the Coon Rapids United Methodist Church with Rev. Joyce Webb officiating. Honorary casket bearers will be all of Vera’s sacred church family. Burial will be in the Union Township Cemetery near Coon Rapids. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Coon Rapids from 4 – 7 P.M. on Sunday. The casket will be moved to the church at 9:30 A.M. on Monday where visitation will resume until the time of service. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Coon Rapids. Born on May 2, 1930 in Scranton, IA, she was the daughter of Lloyd and Pauline (Beeson) Wood. Vera grew up on the farm in the Scranton area. She attended country school at Willow Township No 3 and graduated from 8th grade there. She attended Bayard High School and graduated in 1948. Vera married George “Bud” Bass on May 22, 1948. They farmed in the Scranton area until March of 1955 when they moved to the Coon Rapids area. They continued to farm until 1992 when George’s health forced them to cut back on farming to 80 acres and cut their Charolais Cow herd down considerably so they could continue to care for them. Their cow herd was always their pride and enjoyment. George and Vera became the parents of four children: Joy, Jerry, Douglas, and Darrell “Shorty”. The family attended the Providence church at Scranton until moving to Coon Rapids where they transferred to the Star church which later united with the Coon Rapids Methodist Church. She was an active member of the UMW and held several offices and she belonged to the Coon Rapids T.T.T. Outside of working for G.E. in Carroll for 8 months, working on the farm was her life. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, making quilts for her family, and she was famous for her angel food cakes. In the late 50’s and 60’s the family enjoyed horseback riding which included square dancing on the horses. They also did many trail rides and attended horse shows. Vera is survived by a daughter Joy Seeley (Doug) of Afton, IA; two sons: Jerry Bass (Delores Rudolph) of Indianola, and Douglas Bass (Pat) of Carroll; a daughter-in-law Doris Bass of Coon Rapids; nine grandchildren: Vicki Herold (Robert) of Indianola, Scott Paulson (Cami) of Minneapolis, Allisha Wilder (Todd) of Indianola, Anthony Bass (Victoria Watkins) of Beech, IA, Erin Tesi (Vinny) Brick, NJ, Alison Bauer (Jeff) of Carroll, Kelly Hays (Kip) of Coon Rapids, David Bass (Shivani) of Creve Couer, MO, and Ryan Bass (Kristy) of Coon Rapids; seventeen great grandchildren: Cody, Cole, Miranda, Landon, Noah, Morgan, Griffin, Sophia, Olivia, Jade, Easton, Parker, Priya, Liam, Brynn, Brielle, and Brylin; two sisters: Shirley Haubrich of Manning and Beverly Ohm (George) of Yale; two brothers-in-law: John “Jack” Bass of Fontanelle, IA and Stanley Bass (Mary) of Banning, CA; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Vera was preceded in death by her parents, her husband George in 1997, her son Darrell “Shorty” in 2009, and three brothers: Victor, Lloyd “Junior”, and Jay “Jerry” as a child, and two sisters-in-law: Cletus Wood and Bernice Bass.
