Vera May Clark was born May 3, 1931, to Walter and Martha (Dadura) Ylitalo, of Frederick, S.D. She attended country school until the seventh grade, moving into Frederick to finish eighth grade and high school. She graduated from Frederick High School with the class of 1949. Vera moved to Aberdeen to attend nursing school. Later, she moved to Seattle where she was employed at a hospital until 1951. Vera married Luverne (Vern) Clark, of Hecla, S.D., on May 11, 1951. Vern was in the service at the time. They lived in several different states and seven countries during his 21 years in the army. The only destinations Vera could not go to were Korea and Vietnam. She proceeded to get her cosmetology license and esthetician (skin care). Vera went into these fields, being self-employed for 27 years. Most of it was in Jonesboro, Ark., where Vern was employed at Sears for 23 years. They both retired and moved back to South Dakota in 1989. Vera enjoyed fishing, hunting and water skiing. She loved floral design, painting and crafts. Vera especially loved spending time with Vern and their family and friends. She loved going to church and visiting with her church family. She enjoyed her cosmetology career. Grateful for having shared Vera's life are sisters, Carol (Connie) Newman, Ortonville, Minn., Patricia (Rev. Wayne) Juntunen, Esko, Minn., Joycelen (Franklin) Hokana, Fairfax, Va., Betty (George) Voeller, Aberdeen, Helen (Milton) Burke, Buena Park, Calif.; brother, Ernie Ylitalo, Aberdeen; sisters-in-law, Ruth Ylitalo, Rapid City, Darnella Ylitalo, Ruth Clark; and several nieces and nephews.
