Description	:	Vera L. Baker, 91 Vera Louise Baker, 91, of Montezuma, died Thursday, July 25, 2005 at Friendship Manor Care Center in Grinnell. Her graveside service was Tuesday, July 26, at Jackson Township Cemetery, Montezuma, with Rev. Dennis Dorshiemer, of the Jackson church of Christ in Montezuma, officiating. Her graveside service was Tuesday, July 26, at Jackson Township Cemetery, Montezuma, with Rev. Dennis Dorshiemer, of the Jackson church of Christ in Montezuma, officiating. Arrangements were by Watts Funeral Home, Montezuma. Vera was born Oct 13, 1913 at New Sharon, the daughter of James and Etta Samuels. She graduated from New Sharon High School in 1931. She married Dale Darland and this union, three children were born. Her husband, Dale, died Jan 5, 1966, and a few years later she married Max Baker of Mt. Clemens, Mich., whom she had known all her life. He died in February of 1972. Vera worked at the courthouse helping with gas rationing during WWII and at the Montezuma Senior Center for over 10 years. She always led a busy life and never sat idle. Vera always enjoyed baking and made pies for area restaurants every morning for about five years. She also enjoyed baking wedding, anniversary and birthday cakes. She baked over 3000 wedding cakes in her lifetime. She loved to make cookies and candy and take them to various places. In her later life, she enjoyed traveling. She took trips with Sarah McClure to California and Texas. She also went with Ardella Benson to several places. Vera was a member of the Jackson church of Christ, the American Legion Auxiliary and the Montezuma Garden Club. Vera is survived by her two children; six grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and one sibling. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Dale and Max; a daughter and son-in-law,Beverly and Clyde Griffin; four brothers, two sisters, and a great-grandson.
