Description	:	Vera (Hornicek) Gillham, 87 of Lodgepole died Thursday morning, April 5, 2012 at the Golden Living Center in Sidney. Vera was born on the Vallier homestead northwest of Peetz, Colorado on January 28, 1925, the daughter of Leonard H. and Marie E. (Sindt) Vallier. Vera attended Twin Buttes, a country school for eight years and graduated from Peetz High School in 1942. She they went to Central Business School in Denver, Colorado. Read More	Vera (Hornicek) Gillham, 87 of Lodgepole died Thursday morning, April 5, 2012 at the Golden Living Center in Sidney. Vera was born on the Vallier homestead northwest of Peetz, Colorado on January 28, 1925, the daughter of Leonard H. and Marie E. (Sindt) Vallier. Vera attended Twin Buttes, a country school for eight years and graduated from Peetz High School in 1942. She they went to Central Business School in Denver, Colorado. She was employed at the Sioux Army Depot in 1943 and 1944 and in October of 1944 she went to San Francisco, California where she worked for Standard Oil Co. On December 9, 1944 she was married to Gordon Hornicek who was serving time in the Navy during World War II. To this union two daughters were born: Kathleen K. and Cynthia J. Vera returned to Colorado where she worked for J.C. Penney's in Sterling until Gordon was discharged. After the war ended she and her husband bought a home in Sunol where they lived for 19 ½ years. In 1966 they moved to Stockton, California when her husband transferred from Sioux Army to Sharpe Army Depot. In 1974 Gordon retired and they moved to the Hornicek homestead where Vera lived until 2010. Her husband passed away in May of 1992 and she married Robert Gillham from Peetz, Colorado on October 5, 2001. Vera was a member of the United Methodist Church in Lodgepole where she belonged to the United Methodist Women and Church Circle. She also belonged to a pinochle club for many years and was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed craft work, crochet, embroidery and sand art. Vera loved flowers and spent many hours tending her flower beds until health issues forced her to slow down. Survivors are: husband Robert Gillham; daughters: Kathy Hodges and husband Gene of Lodgepole, NE and Cindy Dean and husband Michael of Austin, TX; Grandchildren: Stephanie Hodges of Sidney, NE, Autumn (Brent) Lyons of Sturgis, SD, Danielle Hodges of Guthrie, OK, Tony (Colleen) Hodges of Lodgepole, NE, Brittney (Jason) Heartz of West Virginia and Matthew (Heather) Dean of Austin, TX ; Great-grandchildren: Nathan Pohl, Cole Hodges, Craig and Casey Woken, Cyrus and Mallory Lyons, Justine and Tjaden Warnick, Jordan Hodges, Spencer Hixon, Lucas, Ryan, Amber and Vera Hodges, Hunter and Ethan Diedrich, Maxwell Heartz and Braden Dean and Great, great-grandchildren: Kaleb Heathershaw and Austin, Kabeb and Korbin Hodges. Vera was preceded in death by: parents, husband Gordon Hornicek, grandson Ken Hodges and granddaughter Heather Hodges. Inurnment was in the Czechoslovakian Cemetery south of Sunol, NE.
