Description	:	Verda Mary Broad went to be with her lord on April 18, 2020 at RWMC in Scottsbluff. Verda was born August 7th, 1923 to John and Fern “Johnson” Vogel on her father’s 30th Birthday on the Vogel family farm, west of Alliance in Box Butte county, the middle child of seven. At the age of 12, Verda helped her father raise her younger brother Gene (6), and sister Betty (4). Verda took them to school with her, and got Betty into school/first grade at age 4. Verda was born August 7th, 1923 to John and Fern “Johnson” Vogel on her father’s 30th Birthday on the Vogel family farm, west of Alliance in Box Butte county, the middle child of seven. At the age of 12, Verda helped her father raise her younger brother Gene (6), and sister Betty (4). Verda took them to school with her, and got Betty into school/first grade at age 4. She would get them up early for breakfast and make them school lunches. After school she would cook the family supper. On the weekends she would clean the house, do laundry and iron. Verda loved her younger brother and sister immensely, and always called them her oldest kids. When her father got remarried in 1941, Verda left the farm and moved to Kearney to go to school. After she finished school, she moved to Omaha to work. Bill Ackerman an Alliance boy, home on leave from the Army, came to Omaha to visit Verda and they got married May 12 1943. She then moved to Cheyenne, WY to work for United Airlines. Bill was later stationed in Alabama and North Carolina for training and Verda went with him. After training Bill was sent overseas to England and Europe to fight in the war. Verda moved back to the farm in Nebraska. Bill and Verda’s first child Linda was born Oct 20th, 1944. At the end of World War II, Bill returned to see Linda for the first time when she was 10 months old. Bill and Verda became farmers and raised cattle which they enjoyed. Their son Thomas was born Sept 7 1947. When Verda’s father passed away she and Bill bought the farm shares from her sisters and brothers. With the big farm, Verda helped with driving the tractor and working the cattle. Bill Ackerman died in May 1958. It was Linda (13) and Tom’s (11) wish to keep living on the farm, so Verda took over running the whole farm, by doing the farming during the day and house work at night. The kids joined 4H and helped around the farm. In 1962, Verda married Kenneth Broad. They continued to work the farm until 1972 when they decided to move to Phoenix to farm tomatoes, while renting the Alliance farm out. Linda had gotten married and Tom was working. Kenny and Verda really enjoyed living in Arizona. They had so much fun when her grand kids came for visits. They took them to all the fun places; Disneyland, Knott’s Berry Farm, SeaWorld, and San Diego Zoo. They spent many weekends camping at old mining and ghost towns. They saw more of Arizona than people that lived their whole lives there did. Jack, Verda’s older brother went with them often. Verda got into collecting antique dolls, repairing them and making them clothes, even shoes. She even went to doll shows selling/buying/trading dolls. It was very enjoyable and profitable. She met many wonderful people and found many friends at the doll shows. In 1988 Kenny and Verda retired and moved back to Nebraska. It was a very good move and they enjoyed being back home with their family and friends. They still did doll shows. They bought an acreage near McGrew that was perfect to have lots of family/friends that could visit and stay. They enjoyed the place and all of the great neighbors. Linda, her daughter passed away in 1998, Kenny passed away in 2004. Verda moved into Scottsbluff in 2011, to finally retire to town life. Verda is survived by her son Tom Ackerman (Carol) of Mcgrew, Grand kids Tracy Lore-Bilek (Larry) of Loveland, CO, Alan Lore (Dana) of Honolulu, HI, Mary Suhr (Sean) of Minatare, Kristen Lambrecht (Devyn) of Omaha, David Ackerman (Diana) of Bloomington, MN. Great GrandKids Kristie Lore of Scottsbluff, Garrett Bilek of Groton CT, Gregory Bilek of Loveland, CO, Devin and Aaron Suhr of Minatare, Anuhea Hauanio-Lore of Honolulu HI, Zander, Ryker, Allister, and Beringer Lambrecht of Omaha NE. Great-Great Grand kid Izaiah Lore, Sisters-in-Law Sue Vogel (Jack), and Edna Broad (Kenny’s Sister-in-Law), and many nephews, nieces, family and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, husbands Bill and Kenneth, Daughter Linda, Brothers Jack and Gene Vogel, Sisters Irene Underwood, Izola Gardner, Betty Downing and Phyllis Nowels.
