Description	:	Verla Olive Darlington Little was born in Missouri. Verla lived in Missouri, LaPort, Texas and the family walked all the way to Whidbey Island when the big flood came into LaPort in the early 1900's and settled on the Island for a short time. Verla lived in Missouri, LaPort, Texas and the family walked all the way to Whidbey Island when the big flood came into LaPort in the early 1900's and settled on the Island for a short time. The family farmed the land. There was no income on the Island and eventually the children got jobs, started moving off the Island, married & had children of their own. Verla's parent could not keep the land with no children to help the land eventually went back to the State and the parents moved to Eastern Washington with family. Verla was one of 13 children born to Weldon Darlington & Fannie Belinda Louisa Casteel. Verla along with her sisters was one of the first telephone operators in Kent,WA. Verla was one of the first telephone operator's in Kent Washington. Her logo was Number Please. When she got married it was proper (retire) to leave your job and take care of your husband. Verla worked for Stokley foods where the Kent Bus station is today. Verla married Otis Little from Whidbey Island and moved to Spokane then Kent in the early 1920's. Otis worked for the Postal Service when it was controled by the U.S. Gov't and ran the Seattle Tacoma Airport facilities. Verla had 19 grandchildren and several g-grandchildren. Verla's daughter Glenna Little took real good care of her when she was ill. Glenna worked full time for the Renton Police Department and still took care of Verla until her death for about 10 years. Brothers - Abraham, Ernie, Weldon, Ivan Sisters - Charolette, Jennie, Ethel, Millie, Ruth, Irene, Emma, Ida Children, Weldon, Irene, Harold, Robert, Glenna, Gary. Verla did not have a Drivers License and always walked. Verla had dark hair, brown eyes, 5-7 inches, 150#, wore a size 9 1/2 shoe. Verla was taller then both of her daughters. Verla's sons ran in height of 5-6 inches to 5-8 inches. Verla's Hobbies were Knitting anything with yarn, (she loved to knit sweaters, vests, clothes for her g-daughters & taught them how to knit), Gardening, word puzzles from the Seattle Times & P.I., Cards. Verla hated to cook. Her daughter Irene was the cook when her family was growing up. 3 of Verla & Otis Little children were buried at Hillcrest Cemetery .
