Read More	* IN LOVING MEMORY OF * Verlin McAllister was born on Sunday; September 20, 1925 in Burlington; Des Moines County, Iowa. Verlin was the son of: Ray and Julia (Schein) McAllister. He attended school in Burlington, Iowa until age eight, then country schools near Whitten; Hardin County, Iowa, the Whitten Public Schools and later graduated from the Eldora High School in Eldora; Hardin County, Iowa in 1953. Verlin served our country proudly in the United States Army for two years. On Sunday; June 28, 1959, he was united in marriage to Donnavee Keenan in Grinnell; Poweshiek County, Iowa. They have resided in Whitten, Iowa until moving to their country home near Whitten in 1984. He was employed at ACCO Seeds, the AMOCO plant at Whitten and Bob's Farm Center for over 30 years until retiring. Most recently, he was a driver for Nucara Pharmacy in Conrad; Grundy County, Iowa. Verlin was an active member of the Whitten Community Church and served on the board, the Conrad American Legion, the Conrad Lions Club, the Whitten Volunteer Fire Department, was on town council and Mayor of Whitten. Many will remember Verlin for his love of family, friends and community. Few were strangers to this kind, willing man who enjoyed dogs, animals, his tractors, life and driving people to places new like the peony fields near Charles City; Floyd County, Iowa or the tulip gardens at Pella; Marion County, Iowa. He truly was a friend to all. Verlin McAllister, 72, of Whitten, Iowa passed away on Monday; November 5, 2007 at the Mercy Hospital in Des Moines; Polk County, Iowa. Those left to mourn his passing are: His loving wife of 48 years: Donnavee. His three children: Debbie & her husband: Kevin Cassens of Vancouver; Clark County, Washington. Carla & her husband: Gene Cummins of Whitten, Iowa and Monty & his wife: Donna McAllister of Eldora; Hardin County, Iowa. His eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. In death he has rejoined his parents and infant sister. May they rest in peace. Friends may call at the funeral home in Marshalltown; Marshall County, Iowa from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday; November 8, 2007. Funeral services celebrating Verlin's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 9th, at the Whitten Community Church in Whitten with Pastor Jim Hartman officiating. He will be laid to rest in the Benson Cemetery at Whitten, Iowa with military honors by the Conrad American Legion. For condolences, please visit the funeral home's website.
