Description	:	Vern W. Gewecke, 94, of Kearney died Tuesday, March 26, 2019 at Kearney Regional Medical Center. Vern was born October 25, 1924 in Rural Buffalo County near Elm Creek, NE to Emil and Margaret (Wiseman) Gewecke. He grew up in Elm Creek and graduated from Elm Creek High School in 1941. He was drafted into the Army in May of 1945. He served his country during WWII and was honorably discharged in October of 1946. Gewecke, 94, of Kearney died Tuesday, March 26, 2019 at Kearney Regional Medical Center. Vern was born October 25, 1924 in Rural Buffalo County near Elm Creek, NE to Emil and Margaret (Wiseman) Gewecke. He grew up in Elm Creek and graduated from Elm Creek High School in 1941. He was drafted into the Army in May of 1945. He served his country during WWII and was honorably discharged in October of 1946. On October 25, 1950 he married Margaret Taylor in Lexington and they farmed in both Phelps and Buffalo County. The couple had two sons; Ronald and Dennis. Vern was a member of the Methodist Church, Miller American Legion Post #351, Life member of V.F.W. Post #759 in Kearney, and Life Member of NRA. In 2008 he went on a Freedom Flight to see the WWII Memorial in Washington DC. Surviving relatives include sons, Ronald Gewecke and Judy Roan and Dennis Gewecke and wife Kelly both of Kearney; sister, June Reiners and husband Marlin of Juniata, NE; sisters-in-law, Norma Taylor and Audrey Taylor both of Kearney and Norma Dutcher of Martinez, CA; grandchildren, Abby , Nick, Austin, Alex, Travis and wife Katie, Steven and wife Megan, Derek and wife Samantha Gewecke, step grandchildren, Maggie Kahman and TJ Kahman; great grandchildren, Chase, Grady, Ryker and Mason Gewecke; numerous nieces, nephew and cousins. He was preceded in death by his wife in 2002; brothers, Kenneth, Wilbur, Elgin, Earl and Fred; sister, Irene and daughter-in-law Diane Stalder Gewecke.
