Funeral services will be 2:00 PM, Tuesday, March 24, 2020 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Java, led by Pastor Mary Lou Gruebele. Interment follows at the Church Cemetery. Verna Alice Lickfelt, daughter of Martha (Schuft) and Fred Lickfelt, was born near Bowdle in Edmunds County on July 10, 1925. She attended country school. Verna kept busy helping her mother with child care and housework. Verna married Martin Fred Bauman at Selby, SD on October 22, 1955. They made their home on the Bauman homestead 4 ½ miles east of Java. In March 1993, they moved into Java. She was an active member of St. Paul Lutheran church and the ladie’s group. She also was a member of Germans from Russia. Verna loved cooking and baking and would often give the finished product to family and friends. Verna is survived by her son Fred Martin (Leanna) Bauman of Rapid City, SD; one granddaughter, Jennifer Bauman of Sioux Falls, SD and one grandson, Jason Bauman of Rapid City; two great-grandsons and one great-granddaughter. Verna is also survived by many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Martin, on December 27, 1996; her parents; six brothers; and one sister. Casketbearers will be David Pfitzer of Aberdeen, SD; David Baumann, Don Sauer, and Dwight Baumann of Mobridge, SD; and Verna’s grandchildren—Jennifer and Jason.
