Description	:	Verna Alvina Olstad, age 96, of Valley City, ND passed away Saturday, June 30, 2018 at the Sheyenne Care Center in Valley City. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, July 6, 2018 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Valley City. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service in the church. Interment will be in the Spring Creek Cemetery, Hastings, ND. Verna Olson was born December 15, 1921 on the family farm near Hastings, ND, the daughter of Oliver and Claudine (Bergen) Olson. She graduated from Hastings High School in 1939. She was married to Erling Olstad May 11, 1940. They had three boys, Gale, Gary and Denis. Verna was a homemaker, helped out on the farm and loved gardening. She was very proud of her Norwegian heritage and was especially known for her lefsa making. Verna was a member of the Litchville Homemakers Club and the ELCW of Our Saviors Lutheran Church. She is survived by two sons, Gale (Betty) and Denis (Janet); a daughter-in-law, Kay Olstad; nine grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and a great-great grandson. Verna was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Erling, a son, Gary; three brothers, one granddaughter, Dena and 6 great-grandchildren, Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Joseph and Abigail. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Oliver-Nathan Funeral Chapel, Valley City.
