She died Saturday, Feb. 16, 2008, at Stanton Health Care. Verna B. Dohren was born July 27, 1913, at Pender to the late Samuel and Hatti (Criag) Anderson. She was baptized and confirmed and was a lifetime member of the United Methodist Church. She graduated as valedictorian of her class in 1931 from the Pilger High School and was also a graduate of Wayne State College. On May 12, 1934, she married Richard W. Dohren. They lived on a farm near Pilger until they moved to Norfolk in 1967. She lived there until moving to the assisted living facility at the Stanton Health Center in February of 2005. She taught as an elementary teacher in District 32 for three years, District 16 for six years and District 7 for three years in Stanton County before teaching for two years in the Westside Elementary School in Norfolk and then as a kindergarten teacher in the Madison Public School system for eight years. As a life-long member of the United Methodist Church, she played the piano and organ for the church for 16 years and was a member of the Methodist Ladies Women's Society since 1934. In 1980, she joined the Norfolk Senior Center. She served on the board at the Norfolk Senior Center for five years and played the piano and organ for the Choralliers for 25 years. She is survived by four daughters and one son and spouses, Phyllis Mather of Des Moines, Iowa, Beverly and Richard Von Seggern of Stanton, Pamela and "Gene" Brandt of Scottsdale, Ariz., Patricia and David Hall of Louisburg, Kan., and Judy and David Dohren of Medford, Ore., and 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a sister, three brothers, a son-in-law and two grandchildren.
