Verna Bernice Vilhauer, daughter of Art and Martha (Nehlich) Bauer, was born January 28, 1935 in Roscoe, SD and died Wednesday, October 1, 2014 at Avera St. Luke’s Hospital in Aberdeen, SD, at the age of 79. Verna grew up in Roscoe, SD where she attended school, was confirmed, went to dances and met the love of her life, Frederick H. Vilhauer. They were married September 28, 1953 and made their home in Aberdeen, where she was a homemaker and mother of four children. To make a little cash to help with expenses and fund her hobbies, Verna was babysitter once Ricky was in school. Verna was a long-time member of Trinity Lutheran Church. She helped her children understand the importance of their faith in Jesus. Verna enjoyed quilt making, sewing, gardening, canning and sharing time with her family and neighbors. She and Fred would waltz around the house in the early days. Verna will be missed by her loving husband Fred of 61 years, her three sons; Dennis, Ricky and daughter Belinda; seven grandchildren; one great-grandson; sister: Arlyce Siino and brother: Dale Bauer. Verna was preceded in death by her parents and sister Vivian Bauer. Carlsen Funeral Home and Crematory of Aberdeen has been entrusted with arrangements.
