Verna was born the daughter of the late Andrew and Katherine (Kernstock) Schwab July 24, 1916 in Frankenlust Twp. and had resided in this area all her life. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church (Amelith), it's Ladies Aid and Senior Fellowship Group. She also enjoyed gardening and playing cards. On May 11, 1941 she married Edgar A. And Sun City, AZ., Edith Brady, Aurora, CO., Henry (Susan) Hammerbacher, Freeland, Alice (Jerry) Kryszak, Essexville, Myrna (Nick) Hadwick, Ann Arbor, 15 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, 2 sisters in-law, Hulda Mayou and Louise Hammerbacher both of Saginaw. She was also predeceased by a daughter, Ileen Hammerbacher, a grandson, Kim Kryszak, 4 brothers, Walter, Richard, Theodore and Erich Schwab, 4 sisters, Alvina Appold, Gertrude Eichinger, Meta Gehringer, Agnes Helmreich and a brother in-law, Otto Mar Hammerbacher. Our family would like to extend a special thank you to all the compassionate and caring staff of the Bay Medical Care Facility. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday October 31, 2009 at St. John Lutheran Church (Mackinaw & Amelith Rds.) Amelith. Rev. Stephen P. Starke will officiate with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Verna's family will receive friends at the Freeland Chapel of the Cunningham-Taylor Funeral Homes, Inc. (Washington Ave. & 2nd St.) FREELAND on Friday from 2:00-8:00 p.m. On Saturday morning, Verna will lie in state at the church from 10:00 a.m. until time of service. Those planning an expression of sympathy, envelopes for St. John Lutheran Church (Amelith) and the donor's favorite charity will be available at the funeral home.
