Description	:	Verne H. Bergan, age 97, of Watertown, SD, formerly of Florence, passed away on Saturday, December 29, 2012 at Jenkins Living Center in Watertown. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, January 4, 2013 at New Helgen Lutheran Church in Florence with the Reverend Gary Anderson officiating. Music will be furnished by soloists, Jennifer Bergan Gabor and Andrea Cleland and organist, Dorothy Anderson. Interment will be in the Goodhue Cemetery, Florence, SD. Verne Harriet Bergan was born on January 18, 1915 to Fredrick and Sophia (Ahrens) Hauer in Grant County, SD. She grew up in Sanborn, ND and Florence, SD, graduating from Florence High School in 1932. She worked for area families until marrying Verne L. Bergan on March 28, 1937 at the St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Florence. They farmed northwest of Florence until retiring to Watertown. Verne was a member of Goodhue Lutheran Church. She enjoyed singing, working with flowers, gardening and spending time with her family. She made many quilts for her family and missions. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Verne L. Bergan on January 30, 1995; her son, LeRoy Bergan; and her sister, Irene Gray. Verne is survived by her son, David (Doris) Bergan of Milbank; her daughter-in-law, Joyce Bergan of Florence; her sister, Lavina Grant of California; a brother-in-law, Bob (Margaret) Bergan and sister-in-law, Dorothy Jenkins all of Chula Vista, CA; seven grandchildren, Blane, Shawn, Wade, and Chad Bergan, Andrea Cleland, Jennifer Bergan Gabor, and Stephanie Loeffler; and 16 great grandchildren.
