Description	:	V. LeRoy Bergan, 75, of Florence, passed away Monday, October 15, 2012 at his residence. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, October 19, 2012 at Grace Lutheran Church in Watertown. Pastor Gary Anderson will officiate with Adam Anderson as soloist and A.J. Sherrill as organist. NOTE: Visitation will be at Grace Lutheran Church on Thursday, October 18 from 4-7:00 p.m. Interment will be Mt. Hope Cemetery in Watertown. Pallbearers will be Paul Cleland, Zachary Cleland, Josh Cleland, Ben Clarke, Chad Bergan and Michael Anderson. V. LeRoy Bergan was born September 19, 1937 to Verne LeRoy and Verne H. (Hauer) Bergan in Watertown, South Dakota. He grew up on a farm and attended Dexter and Meland Country Schools in the Florence area. He later attended and graduated from Florence High School. After High School, Leroy attended South Dakota State University where he earned his BS Degree while playing football for the Jackrabbits. LeRoy then travelled to Uruguay, South America for an International Farm Youth Exchange Program. When he returned, LeRoy went to training camp for the Baltimore Colts after being drafted by the professional football team. On June 12, 1960 he married Joyce Anderson at Grace Lutheran Church in Watertown. He owned Bergan Athletic Company, taught at Waverly, Florence, Canova, and Clear Lake, SD along with Ogilvie, MN. He and Joyce owned and operated LBJ's Men's Wear in Watertown. He farmed near Florence from 1975 until his retirement from farming. LeRoy and Joyce had spent their past winters in Arizona. LeRoy was a member of New Helgen Lutheran Church where he served on the Church Council, sang in the choir, and volunteered as a Sunday School Teacher. He was on the Board of Directors for Codington-Clark Electric, Board of Directors for Poet Northern Growers Ethanol, an Elks Club member for 50 years, a member of National Principals Association and a member of the Gideons. LeRoy's hobbies and interests were hunting, fishing, along with following all types of area sports teams. He especially enjoyed Baseball, Basketball, and Football from professional to the High School levels. He was preceded in death by his father Verne LeRoy Bergan Sr. LeRoy is survived by his wife, Joyce of Florence; his children, Andrea (Michael) Cleland of Wichita, KS, Blane (Wendy) Bergan of Sioux Falls, SD, Jennifer Bergan (Alan) Gabor of Sioux Falls, SD, Shawn (Ginger) Bergan of Sioux Falls, SD, and Wade Bergan of Watertown, SD, his mother, Verne Bergan of Watertown, SD, his brother, David (Doris) Bergan of Milbank, SD; and nine grandchildren, sister-in-law, Bev Thompson, brother-in-law, Harlan (Barbara) Anderson, and brother-in-law, Arlo (Shelly) Anderson.
