She lived the early part of her life in West Point and most of her adult life in Eltham of New Kent County, Virginia. Vernelle was preceded in death by her parents, Alfred Findell Norman and Mary Mahaley Norman Norman, her sister Daisy Norman Milby and husband Schuyler Milby and her sister Ella Mae Norman. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Wilbur Franklin Fletcher, her daughter Gwendolyn Fletcher Duncan and husband Dr. Gregory Duncan of Greenville, NC, her daughter Virginia Fletcher Page and husband Stacey Page of Mechanicsville, her daughter Melinda Fletcher Bond of Henrico, and her grandson Shawn Valentine and wife Michelle of Ashland and a great-grandson Tyler Michael Valentine. Mrs. Fletcher worked for six years at the Virginia Department of Highway and raised her three daughters in New Kent County. Mrs. Fletcher was a member of West Point First Baptist Church for 80 years where in her later adult years she was active in the Convention Bible Class, in the Women's Missionary Unit and taught in the Primary Sunday School Department and in Nursery. Vernelle also volunteered at the Saluda Home for ten years and spent twenty years as a volunteer at Riverside Convalescent Center. Flowers are appreciated. However, the family has requested that donations in her memory be made to American Cancer Society or West Point First Baptist Church, PO Box N, West Point, VA 23181. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Monday, May 5th at West Point First Baptist Church, 414 Main Street, West Point, VA. Interment will follow in Sunny Slope Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, May 4th at Vincent Funeral Home, 417 11th Street, West Point, VA 23181.
