The funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 11, 2014, at 11:00 AM at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Columbus with Rev. Patrick Sparling officiating. Private family interment will be held in Roselawn Memorial Cemetery prior to the service. There will be no pubic visitation. Vernetta Cattau was born January 13, 1922, in Colfax County, Nebraska, to Conrad and Martha (Mueller) Grotelueschen. She graduated from Kramer High School in 1940. On August 22, 1943, Vernetta was united in marriage to Edgar Cattau at Christ Lutheran Church. Vernetta retired in 1985 from Columbus Manor where she served as administrative assistant. After retirement, Vernetta devoted herself to many volunteer activities. As a lifetime active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, she served many years as funeral chairman, and was a active member of the Evening Guild, Lutheran Womens Missionary League, Quilters, and Lifelight Bible Study. She was a lifetime member of the Legion Auxiliary, and lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans, serving in many capacities including commander and state chaplain. She was active in 8 and 40 and delivered "meals on wheels" for many years. She was honored by AARP with the National AARP Community Service Award for her volunteer activities. Vernetta is survived by: Son Daughter 5 Grandchildren 8 Great Grandchildren 2 Sisters Sister-in-law 8 Nephews 7 Nieces Vernetta was preceded in death by: Parents - Conrad and Martha Grotelueschen Husband - Edgar Cattau Sister - Esther Folken Sister-in-law - Eva Cattau Brothers-in-law - Edward Werner, Marvin Folken, Raymond Cattau, and Martin Cattau Edited to remove the names of her survivors.
