Description	:	Vernice Hill, 93, died Saturday, January 17, 2015, at Southridge Healthcare. A memorial service will be held at 2:30 PM on Thursday, January 22, 2015 at George Boom Funeral Home in Sioux Falls. The family will be present to greet friends for visitation from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Wednesday, January 21 at the funeral home. Vernice Lorraine Stubsten, daughter of Helmer and Pearl (Anderson) Stubsten, was born October 1, 1921 on the family farm near Worthing, SD. Growing up she attended country school in Lincoln County and later graduated from Canton High School in 1940. Following her graduation she enrolled in the McKennan School of Nursing and later Sioux Falls College. Vernice married Charles Hill on November 13, 1944 in Atlantic City, NJ. In 1946 the couple moved to Sioux Falls where Vernice worked as a nurse at Sioux Valley Hospital (now Sanford) and as a school nurse in the Sioux Falls school system. The couple then moved to Pierre, SD in 1973 where she worked at Rivercrest Manor. In 1978 the family moved to LeMars, IA where she worked at Plymouth Manor until retiring in 1988. Over the years, Vernice was a member of the F.O.P. Auxiliary #1 in Sioux Falls, Canton Lutheran Church, The Good Samaritan Auxiliary and the Hospital Auxiliary. Grateful for having shared her life are her children, Sharon Hill, Cedar Rapids, IA, Jim (Donna) Hill, Watertown, SD, Eileen (Mike) Cypher, Hartford, SD, Mike (Amy Fill) Hill, Volin, SD, and Brian Hill, Sioux City, IA; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sisters, Mae Crawford, Yankton, SD and Shirley Ostraat, Canton, SD; and brother, Dennis Stubsten, Franklin, TN.
